WeSwim are looking for motivated and caring volunteers who are keen to make a difference by working with the disability community in London.
Led by friendly volunteers, our dedicated pool activity sessions are a space in which people can use their time in the water as they wish. WeSwim is a safe space to be sociable, build confidence and become more active whether you're swimming or simply escaping to a welcoming and engaging environment. We’re dedicated to creating a sense of community that benefits swimmers and volunteers alike!
As a volunteer you will help swimmers achieve goals that they set, whether this be working on their swimming technique, improving confidence with existing skills, or just feeling comfortable in the water.
We have clubs across London in Crouch End, Tottenham Green, Old Street, Barbican, and Vauxhall.
- 100% of swimmers and 88% of volunteers report improved connection to community
- 100% of swimmers and 62% of volunteers report improved mental wellbeing
Our volunteers have a strong sense of community, both with other volunteers and swimmers. Volunteers have also said that they feel more confident in the water, and that volunteering at WeSwim sessions has mental wellbeing benefits.
This is a role where you will really make an impact on the lives of others. Thanks to our volunteers, our disabled swimmers are more active, socially engaged and confident in their abilities in and out of the water.
- Teaching skills
- Patience, active listening
- Training opportunities around inclusivity; disability and gender awareness
- Safeguarding training
You do not have to be a strong swimmer, although being comfortable in the water is essential. We will provide a comprehensive induction and ongoing training in working with swimmers with disabilities.
You will also need to have a basic digital literacy - our rotas and sign ups are all online.
The main quality we value in our volunteers is the ability to listen and respond to what the swimmers want to achieve. Our volunteers care about inclusivity, accessibility and community.
