Day time Outreach (Lambeth Street Engagement Team)

What You'll Do:
  • Accompany an experienced outreach worker in taking the service to the street population in Lambeth.
  • Engage and build rapport with the entrenched street substance users.
  • Support service users into support and treatment centres.
  • Refer service users to relevant internal services and external agencies.
  • Making or receiving phone calls on shift.
  • Assist with taking notes during the shift.
  • Provide a professional and effective service to clients in line with Thames Reach policies and values
Why You'll Love It:

In this role, you'll be able to make a direct difference to the lives of those experiencing homelessness. You'll be part of our frontline team, helping the Street Engagement Team to protect individuals and communities from the harms caused by drug and alcohol misuse. This volunteer role allows us to deliver these crucial shifts so that people who are struggling with substance abuse can be supported to access services and support.

During this role you'll receive:

  • Regular support and supervision from the service team.
  • Wellbeing support – our 24/7 online volunteer assistance programme.
  • Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses.
What You'll Learn:
  • Experience, training, and skills that you can highlight on your CV and in job interviews with professional references after 3 months volunteering.
  • Access to a range of additional e-learning courses.
What We're Looking For:
  • A friendly personality, good interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, and motivation.
  • The physical ability to work on the streets as there can be a lot of walking involved.
  • Ability to listen and be empathetic to build rapport with clients.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Motivation to support disadvantaged and vulnerable people.
  • Awareness and understanding of the need for professional boundaries and confidentiality.
