Who we are 

City Volunteering is part of the wider Student Development team. We're here to provide you with a range of volunteering opportunities that suit your interests, your career goals, and your time commitments.  

How to get involved 

We know as City students you are often busy studying, working part-time, or being involved in clubs and societies on campus. That's why we offer several kinds of volunteering opportunities that fit flexibly around your schedule. If you're looking to try something out, you might choose one of our one-off volunteering opportunities. If you want a more regular opportunity, we have lots of roles available from the many organisations that want to work with us. And if you think something's missing or you're feeling entrepreneurial, we can help you set up your own student-led project.

Get stuck in 

Here's some examples of some opportunities we have available right now! 

IROKO Conference Volunteer – IROKO Theatre Company are looking for volunteers to help run their conference, ‘The Legacy of People of Nigerian Descent in Britain’ on the 7th October. You’ll be helping to set up and register delegates, helping catering and tech personnel, and answering general queries. You’ll also get to hear some great speeches from guest speakers and live performances, as well as a free lunch. 

After-school Club Volunteer – Salusbury World supports refugee and migrant children’s education in the UK. They are looking for dedicated volunteers to help run their after-school club in Kilburn. You’ll help children to improve their English to make them feel more confident with their homework and classwork, and learn new skills in communication, supervision and teamwork. 

Remote Telephone Befriender – The Brain Charity needs volunteers who can commit an hour a week to become a befriender to telephone someone who has a neurological condition and/or supports someone with one. You’ll be there to talk to your befriendees about anything they’d like, and you’ll learn how to support individuals remotely and how to communicate with empathy.  

Volunteer Web Designer – GrassRoots Web is a nonprofit web design agency that helps charities and nonprofit organisations to build their websites for free. In this role, you’ll be given full training by GRW in no code web design using WordPress and you’ll go on to create a custom-made website for a real client that matches their needs.  

LGBT+ Ambassador in Schools – Just Like Us works with schools and young people across the UK to ensure LGBT+ young people thrive. They’re looking for ambassador’s who identify as LGBT+ to deliver talks in secondary schools and offer representation to young people and support them through mentoring. Through this, you’ll develop your public speaking, project management and digital media creation skills, as well as join a nationwide community of 300+ LGBT+ young activists.
